The Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo is an art museum located in a palace on the border with the Recoleta neighborhood.
The museum is dedicated to designing and decorative arts, featuring a collection of more than 6,000 objects, including sculptures, paintings, carpets, and ceramics, mainly European and Oriental from the 15th to the 20th centuries.
The palace was restored as a house museum, and the building, in addition to housing art and furniture from different eras, shows the lifestyle of a patrician family at the beginning of the 20th century.
For 18 years the Errázuriz Alvear family lived there, and the palace has been the scene of several receptions, concerts, and dances.
The building also has an imposing French-style garden that serves as an extension of the reception halls. The central axis is the Swan Fountain, surrounded by flower beds that evoke designs from the Palace of Versailles.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum has temporary exhibitions. For those who prefer, there are also guided tours available, all details and schedules are available on the official website.
In the museum entrance courtyard, you will find a Croque Madame restaurant. The restaurant has tables outside and is worth a visit for a coffee, drink, snacks, lunch, or dinner.
